Cardboard Couture

Lulamae's amazing temporary shop in Melbourne Central

"The entire fit out of the store is constructed from 100% post-consumer waste recycled cardboard, which despite how humble it may sound, has been transformed into a boutique fit out fit for a king.

The pre-cut panels turned up flat packed, folded and were slotted into place on the spot for the stay.
Drawn-on classical columns provide an elegant neoclassical streetscape to the exterior design of the casual commercial space.

Cardboard tubes held in place by beautifully cut brackets provide the much-needed rails for showcasing the Lulamae clothing range on their hangers, whilst a cardboard cabinet with doodled detailing displays folded items.

When Lulamae’s time comes to ‘pop-down’, the streetscape will be folded up neatly, packed away to provide a regal re-incarnation elsewhere."

Silhouettes

These silhouettes are made by Melbourne based Bride&Wolfe.

I think they'd look lovely hanging in a window so that the light could filter through - dappled light and shadows. I love the intricacy and I especially like the timber (blackwood) versions - so precisely cut yet so warm and homely.

On another note... the vintage dress arrived in the mail today - only 7 days travel from New York. It's lovely and it fits. I think this online vintage cloth buying thing could become addictive!

Mobiles

I am always on the hunt for a good mobile.
It's become my signature baby shower gift (Lizard on the Fridge on Prospect Road for those Adelaidians is a good spot to start!) and seeing I've got a few showers to attend over the next few months I thought I'd have a bit of a hunt to see what's around... I found Flutter By by gentlearts. I can't express how beautiful I think these are! I also had the sporadic surprise of finding that gentlearts is from Melbourne! I love finding talented Aussies on Etsy.

Side Note: I think Mobiles are underrated - you just don't see them around often anymore. I had lots of fabulous mobiles when I was growing up (thanks Mum and Dad.) I can remember staring up at the glass fish and the felt shapes for hours on end. I now have a gorgeous ceiling with turn-of-the-century features and a ceiling fan to look up at although there is still space for a hanging sculpture I say... If you see a good one please let me know!
